Advent calendar ideas

24 ideas for an advent calendar that sounds like you.

The best doors are rarely bought. A photo with a little story, something you have meant to say for a long time, a voucher for time together: here are ideas sorted by type, and how to put them into a digital advent calendar that opens one more door at midnight every day.

€14.90 once per calendar VAT included (US: $14.90 plus sales tax).
Designing and previewing is free. You only pay when you send it.

Personal, not generic

Start with the person, then the doors.

Before you collect ideas, ask yourself: What makes them laugh? What did you experience together this year? What have you never properly thanked them for? Three or four answers quickly become ten doors. Small rituals fill the rest: a greeting on 6 December, a halfway door on the 12th, something special for the 24th.

Three ideas for your 24 doors

The beginning is often close at hand.

Three suggestions to fill with your own moments.

03

Words

3 things I love about you

Three specific observations mean more than one big compliment: how they listen, what makes them laugh, what they do for others.

07

Your voice

A morning greeting

Twenty seconds are enough. Record it directly in the browser and it is waiting on 7 December.

13

Voucher

An evening just for you two

Give time instead of things: an evening without phones, a meal together, a day out. You pick the date together.

What makes giftcountdown different

More than 24 photos behind doors.

From you. For one person.

How it becomes your gift.

  1. Start with a template

Choose a design and start with a template for a partner, family, friends or children – or with an empty calendar.

  2. Add your own moments

Edit the texts, choose photos, record a message. Review and save all 24 doors before you send the calendar.

  3. Unlock and send the link

After payment you get your gift link. The recipient opens it in the browser, without an app account.

Not 24 presents, but 24 moments.

A personal advent calendar does not need 24 bought things. Photos, words, your voice and a few vouchers are plenty. What matters is that every door sounds like you, and that a new one opens every day at midnight in the recipient's time zone.

Turning it into a digital advent calendar

With giftcountdown you start from a template for a partner, family, friends or children. Each template gives all 24 doors a starting point that you change: your own photos instead of placeholders, your voice instead of a text, your vouchers instead of the suggested ones. “Several photos” assigns many pictures to doors at once.

If words fail you for a door, the optional AI writing helper suggests wording. Read it through anyway: a sentence you wrote yourself almost always feels more personal.

Good to know

Before you start.

How many vouchers should an advent calendar have?

Two to four is a good guide. More important than the number is that you really want to redeem them. Each of our templates includes three vouchers that you can change or replace.

Does every door need to be different?

No. Mix texts, photos, voice messages, vouchers and a quiz. Alternating short and longer doors keeps December interesting.

What goes behind door 24?

Something that lasts: a longer letter, a voice message or a voucher for after Christmas.

Is it too late for an advent calendar?

No. If you give the calendar in December, the doors of the days that have passed are open straight away, and the rest follow daily. There is no shipping because the calendar is a link.

How long can the calendar be opened?

Doors unlock daily from 1 to 24 December. Access lasts until 31 January of the following year (UTC). After that, the calendar and its media are deleted, so it is not a permanent photo archive.

How much does it cost to send?

Sending costs €14.90 once per calendar, VAT included; in the US it is $14.90 plus applicable sales tax. There is no subscription. You can design your calendar for free and look at the preview before you decide to buy.
